Vado Speedway Park Race Recap – 9/16/23

The atmosphere at Vado Speedway Park was electric as engines roared to life, signaling the start of another exhilarating race night.

S. H. Automotive Pure Stocks:

The Pure Stocks kicked off the evening with Rick Skillin at pole position in his sharp #02. However, James Skoog, the Alamogordo sensation, quickly emerged as the one to watch. While David Garcia Jr. and Chase Ortiz showcased brilliant moves, splitting racers and surging ahead, Scott Sullivan from Truth or Consequences, NM, climbed up the grid with impressive speed. But it was Skoog, in his unique front-wheel-drive Honda Civic, who stole the show, deftly navigating lap traffic to maintain his lead against Sullivan. After a thrilling race, Skoog took the top spot, followed closely by Sullivan and Chase Ortiz.

Johnstone Supply Super Trucks:

Stefnie Smith led the pack in the #87S, but the field was soon dominated by the likes of 88-year-old Sherman Barnett and Michael Hartman in the B52 truck. Despite starting in the 14th position, Hartman put on a masterclass of racecraft, securing a victory after a fierce battle with Luis Esquivel.

POWRi Jackson Compaction 305 Winged Sprint Cars:

While Caleb Saiz began strong, the night belonged to Dylan Harris, the beach blonde birthday boy. After navigating lap traffic with skill, Harris secured the win, making his birthday even more special. Kudos to Lorne Wofford and Royal Jones for their intense side-by-side racing, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.

Hulsey Racing INEX Legends Class:

The race began with a chaotic start, involving several drivers in a pile-up. Despite the challenges, young Luke Solis took the lead, challenging seasoned racers. Dusty Riggs, however, showed his racing prowess, moving past Solis, closely followed by his son, Cale Riggs. The night was filled with emotion, passion, and an unforgettable racing spirit.

Hacienda Carpet and Tile USRA B Mods:

The “boom bada B Mods” did not disappoint! Hector “Bad Bunny” Barraza finally tasted victory, a long-awaited moment, considering he’s third in the season’s point totals. The Tortugas Tornado, Jaime Torres, displayed impressive skill, while Donavon Flores emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Christy Georges-Barnett, even after a minor setback, showcased her resilience.

With Hector Barraza’s long-awaited victory, Dylan Harris’s birthday win, and the thrilling performances of the B Mods, the night at Vado Speedway Park was truly one for the books.
