The excitement was palpable even before the engines roared to life. We had hot laps in front of us with the Jackson Compaction 305 Wing Sprint Cars, and the track looked perfect. With 83 drivers checked in and ready to put on a show, the night promised thrilling dirt track racing.
As the crowd settled in, the smell of delicious concession food filled the air, and the merchandise stands buzzed with activity. The energy from the community was incredible, with many fans taking advantage of special discounts for Dona Ana County residents. The stage was set for an unforgettable night of racing.
S. H. Automotive Pure Stocks: Cory Stone‘s First Victory!
The night kicked off with the SH Automotive Pure Stocks, and what a race it was! Cory Stone from Lovington, NM, showed incredible skill and determination, starting from the fourth position and taking the lead early on. Despite numerous cautions and intense pressure from Sharrii Minks, who made a valiant charge from the 11th position to finish second, Stone held his ground. Jeffrey Maag also made a strong showing, adding to the drama. In the final laps, Minks gave it her all but ultimately fell just short, securing a well-deserved third place after losing second to Shane Helton coming out of turn four. Stone’s victory was his first of the season, a testament to his resilience and the strong support from his family, who celebrated with him in Victory Lane.
Johnstone Supply Super Trucks: Devan Smith‘s Dominance
Next up were the Johnstone Supply Super Trucks, and Devan Smith delivered a masterclass in racing. Starting from the third position, Smith quickly took the lead and never looked back, securing back-to-back wins in this division. The race saw plenty of action, with Bryan Christie and Christy Barnett battling fiercely for the top spots. Christie secured second place after swapping positions with Barnett multiple times, who finished third. Smith’s dominant performance was a true team effort, with his crew working tirelessly to keep the truck in top form. The excitement in Victory Lane was palpable as Smith celebrated with his son.
Jackson Compaction 305 Winged Sprint Cars: The Wofford Show
The Sprint Cars roared onto the track, and the competition was fierce. Lorne Wofford, starting from the second position, quickly took the lead and never looked back. His son Wes Wofford made an impressive charge from 14th to 2nd, showcasing his driving prowess. Despite a late caution that bunched up the field, Lorne managed to hold off his son and the rest of the pack to take the win. Mike Archuleta secured third place after a hard-fought battle with Derek DeMartino and Jesse Baker. The Woffords put on a clinic, and it was a joy to watch them battle it out on the track. Lorne’s victory was celebrated with fireworks and a heartfelt interview, where he dedicated his win to the POWs and MIAs, highlighting the importance of supporting our veterans.
Extreme Landscaping USRA Stock Cars: Josh Cain‘s Seventh Win
The Extreme Landscaping USRA Stock Cars race was a rollercoaster of emotions. Javie Chávez in the 6FO led for most of the race, battling fiercely with Mr. Rob Moseley. However, it was Josh Cain, aka “The Hurricane,” who emerged victorious after a series of intense battles and strategic moves. Starting from the 9th position, Cain methodically made his way through the pack, ultimately taking the lead in the final laps. Jonathan Burton took second place, and Kenny McCoy in the Shaggin’ Wagon claimed third. Despite a controversial incident involving Mosley and Chavez, Cain maintained his composure and took the checkered flag, marking his seventh victory of the season.
Hacienda Carpet and Tile USRA B-Mods: The Gallardo Show
The final race of the night, the Hacienda Carpet & Tile USRA B-Mods, was nothing short of spectacular. Deuce Teague, fresh out of high school, led the field and showcased his incredible talent. Despite facing intense pressure from experienced drivers like Christy Barnett and the Gallardo duo, Fito and Jake, Teague’s determination and focus saw him leading most of the race. However, it was Fito Gallardo who made a stunning charge from 14th to take the lead and eventually the win. Jake Gallardo followed closely in second, making it a Gallardo one-two finish. Jesse Haynie rounded out the top three in a race that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The energy was thunderous as Fito, ‘Chocolate Thunder’, Gallardo celebrated his success in Victory Lane.
