The $22,000-to-win Rancho Milagro Fall Nationals roared back into life on Saturday night, October 22nd with fifty-one USRA Modifieds in attendance on night # 2 of the three-day mega event.

Multi-time Fall Nationals Champion Terry Phillips lead from green to checkered during the Saturday night portion of the 22nd annual event but not without incredible pressure first from Tanner Mullens and then during the final laps from Johnny Scott to race to the win and solidify his pole position starting spot for the 50-lap finale on Sunday.

Phillips started on the outside from row and got the jump on pole sitter Kale Westover to take command on the opening lap with third starting Tanner Mullens hot on his heels early. As the two Midwest racers circled the Vado Speedway Park side by side for the majority of the event, Rodney Sanders, Johnny Scott and Darron Fuqua were in a great battle just behind for third with Dereck Ramirez.

Phillips continued to show the way with the slightest of margins over Mullens, while Sanders, Scott and Fuqua were racing hard for third just ahead of Ramirez, who was dealing with 14th starting Jake O’Neil. With Ramirez and O’Neil racing hard for a spot inside the top five, Friday night’s winner Cade Dillard was storming from his 21st starting spot and appeared in the top ten early and as the laps wound down, put his #97 into the top five with a chance for his second straight podium finish.

The final caution of the event flew when Mullens got under Phillips entering turn one and turned himself around, setting up a late race battle between Phillips, Scott and O’Neil for the win. Phillips would hold them off and race to the victory with Scott edging O’Neil for second at the line. Ramirez would work by Fuqua into fourth just ahead of Dillard who advanced 15 spots to finish sixth.

Jesse Haynie left little to the imagination tonight as he raced from the outside from row to a dominating B-Mod feature win, making it two in a row for the driver out of Las Cruces, NM in his #X15. With Haynie racing alone out front, a great battle ensued for second between Aasa Flores, Peyton Gallardo, Lucas Ward and Donavon Flores for much of the 20-lap event. Donavon Flores held the second spot early until Gallardo was able to work under Donavon’s #07 into the runner up spot, while Aasa Flores worked to make it a three-car battle.

Haynie ran off comfortably to the win with Aasa Flores stealing the second spot from Gallardo late in the race to finish in second. Gallardo ran third with Donavon Flores fourth, just ahead of Ward, who rounded out the top five finishers in his #11.

Josh Cain knew he had the Stock Car to beat during the Friday night portion of the Fall Nationals but suffered a flat tire while leading and ended up fifth in the final rundown, so when he earned the pole position for tonight’s Stock Car feature he was not going to let anything deter him from racing into Rio Grande Waste Services Victory Lane. Cain got out front early and was never seriously challenges on his way to victory ahead of track point leader Rob Moseley, who ran second for the second night in a row in his #m17 padding his point lead heading into championship night on Sunday.

Friday night’s winner RC Combs crossed the finish line in third after a race-long battle with Moseley and Mike Rosales inside the top five. Rosales ran inside the top five all feature long and finished fourth with Shane McNutt edging Austin Huskey for fifth in a photo finish as well.
