The state-of-the-art Vado Speedway Park in Vado, NM was back in action on Saturday, July 30thwith the track’s final Meet the Drivers Night of the season and the theme of the night was streaks. Win streaks. Diego Alvarado raced to his third straight Pure Stock victory. Caleb Stelzig matched that with his third straight Non-Wing Sprint win. Jake Gallardo continued the streak of either he, or his dad Fito winning the Modified features to a whopping 9 in a row and Christy Barnett, who had her Super Truck win streak snapped two weeks ago at five in a row, got back to victory lane, making it six wins in her last seven Super Truck starts.

After preliminary action was completed, the first feature of the night was the S.H. Automotive Pure Stock feature event, which saw 9th starting Diego Alvarado race to his third straight Pure Stock feature victory. Alvarado wasted no time charging from his 5th row starting spot to battle for the lead early and taking control on lap two. Once Alvarado got out front, he drove out to a six-car length lead for the majority of the race, while Michael Hartman, Robert Dominguez, Ken Ruble and Jeremy DuBois were all working their way into top five runs. Dominguez and Hartman got to second and third and tried to run down Alvarado, but ran out of laps as Alvarado raced to his third straight win. Dominguez crossed the line second but was disqualified in post-race tech, elevating DuBois to a runner up finish.

The Johnstone Supply Super Trucks were up next for their 20-lap feature, which saw Sherman Barnett, who was celebrating his 87th birthday at the track on Saturday take the lead from his 7th starting spot early in the race and drive around out front, while Christy Barnett was working her way through the field from here 13th starting spot and she moved in to battle with Rusty Bowen for second as Sherman continued to lead out front. As the laps wound down, Christy was able to get by Bowen into second and then pull up along-side Sherman for the lead. Christy was able to power by on the inside and take the top spot away and drove off to the win. Sherman settled in for second with Bowen third at the finish.

The third feature of the night was the POWRi Sunset Grill 360 Non-Winged Sprint Cars and track point leader Caleb Stelzig earned the pole after heat race action and took off on the start and never looked back en route to his third straight Non-Wing Sprint Car victory here at Vado. With Stelzig out front all alone, a good battle for second ensured for much of the 25-lapper between Rick Ziehl, Colt Treharn, Spencer Hill, Dylan Harris and Caleb Saiz. The five drivers swapped the runner up spot on multiple occasions until Hill got rolling up on the cushion and worked by into third and was chasing down second before he got over the cushion, hitting the wall and ending his night. Ziehl and Saiz were also forced to retire from action, setting up a three-lap dash with Treharn and Harris giving Stelzig pressure for the lead. Caleb was strong all night and ran away with his third Non-Winged Sprint feature win of the season with Treharn second and Harris third at the line.

Jonathan Burton outlasted a furious charge from 13th starting Josh Cain to win a caution-plagued S&J Automotive USRA Stock Car feature. Burton, who started 5th took the lead from pole sitter Sherman Barnett early and then non only withstood 2 rain delays, but also a wild race for the lead between himself, Barnett, Bryan Bennett, Rob Moseley and Cain throughout the event, which was slowed by more than a half dozen caution flags throughout the 20-lap event. When the checkered finally flew, it was Burton who came out of top, nipping Cain at the line for the win. Bennett crossed the line third for his efforts.

The final event of the night was the Rancho Milagro USRA Modified 25-lap feature and the field of 21 competitors put on a show for the fans. Tom Georges led the opening lap before Rocko Gallardo got out front and drove off to a sizeable lead before a caution flag brought the field back to his rear bumper for the restart. On the restart, Carlos Ahumada Jr. blasted by into the lead and led several laps before 8th starting Jake Gallardo raced by on a restart into the top spot and took command out front. Jake worked his way away from the field, while Fito Gallardo, who started 7th, worked by Ahumada as well into the runner up spot. Jake hit his marks lap after lap and raced to the win, ahead of Fito and Carlos, who ran second and third in the nightcap.
