The state-of-the-art Vado Speedway Park in Vado, NM was back in action on Saturday, June 18th for the track’s annual Father’s Day weekend special which featured USRA Modifieds, B-Mods, Stock Cars, Non-Winged Sprint Cars and INEX Legends on the five-division program.

After preliminary action was completed, the first feature of the night was the Hulsey Racing INEX Legends with California-racer Craig Wahlberg pacing the field to the green flag. Wahlberg and Angel Garcia raced for the lead early until defending track champion Aydan Saunders worked his way from his 12th starting spot into contention and was able to sweep by into the lead. Once out front, Saunders faced heavy pressure from Jacob Masterson for the top spot, while Zach Rodriguez raced from 9th up to 3rd and was working to make it a three-car battle for the lead. Saunders was strong and raced away with the win ahead of Masterson, who recorded a career-best second place finish ahead of Rodriguez, 16th starting Dusty Riggs and 10th starting Josh Jackson when the checkered flag flew.

23 Hacienda Carpet & Tile USRA B-Mods took the green for the 20-lap main event with Enrique Barraza sitting on the pole at the start. Barraza, Daryl Lackey and Jay Hill battled out front early for the top spot, while 13th starting Christy Barnett worked her way forward into the top five. Barnett began to pressure the leaders out front with Eric McNutt in the hunt as well. Once Barnett was able to get by into the top spot, she held on for the win, but not without heavy pressure from McNutt, who crossed the line in second. Greg Gorham charged from his 22nd starting spot to finish third with Albuquerque visitor Hunter Sandy racing from 15th up to 4th and Jose De La Fuente rounding out the top five.

The third feature of the night was the POWRi Sunset Grill 360 Non-Winged Sprint Cars and Caleb Stelzig raced from his third starting spot to the lead and drove off for his second Vado win of the 2022 racing season. Rick Ziehl and Spencer Hill battled with Stelzig early until Hill was forced to pit with a flat tire, allowing 7th starting Caleb Saiz to join the battle out front. Stelzig was up to the challenge though and he powered his #21 out front all night long en route to the win. Saiz ran a close second with Ziehl third, followed by Dustin Cormany and 16th starting Dylan Harris, who rounded out the top five at the checkered flag.

The S&J Automotive USRA Stock Car main event was up next with Sherman Barnett jumping into the early race lead from his pole position starting spot and pacing the field early in the 20-lap event. While Barnett lead, 5th starting Rob Moseley and 7th starting Bryan Bennett worked into second and third early and Moseley was the first to slip by Barnett into the top spot and take off out front. Once out front, Moseley tried to drive off, but Bennett was roaring around the outside of the speedway and raced to Moseley’s outside. The duo ran side by side for the lead for several laps until Bennett used his high side momentum to capture the lead and was able to drive to victory. Moseley crossed the line in second with RC Combs racing from 9th up to 3rd, followed by Daniel Sanchez Jr. and Fred Gibson in the top five.

The final event of the night was the Rancho Milagro URSA Modified 25-lapper and Jake Gallardo raced from his 8th starting spot to his second straight Modified victory at the speedway after battling with his dad Fito side-by-side out front for a number of laps during the mid-point of the race. Jimmy Ray and Rocko Gallardo lead the field to green and battled out front for the top spot for the first few laps until Fito Gallardo raced to the inside of his brother to take the lead. Once Fito got out front he tried to stretch his advantage, but Jake was on the move early as well and pulled up alongside to battle. Nick Rivera and Jake Boles were in a good battle with Ray for the third spot, while Fito and Jake duked it out at the front of the field. Jake would eventually race by into the lead and pick up the win with Fito second at the checkered flag. Rivera would best Boles for third with Ray rounding out the top five finishers.
