The Vado Speedway Park held its annual Father’s Day weekend event on Saturday, June 19th where all dads in attendance were entered into a drawing for some cool prizes at the event’s intermission. The on-track action featured 305-Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, USRA B-Mods, USRA Stock Cars and Claimers.

The USRA B-Mod feature saw some hard chargers throughout the field during the 20-lap event after Vince Melone and Luis Salazar paced the field to the green. Melone jumped to the early lead but all eyes were on 10th starting Dustin Smith, 11th starting Greg Gorham and 13th starting Christy Barnett as the trio tried to make their way through the field toward the front. Barnett was the first to get through traffic and stole the lead from her 7th row starting spot and raced away from the field to hold off a last lap challenge from Gorham for the victory. Gorham crossed the finish line second with Smith third, followed by Dickie Gorham and Sherman Barnett.

Defending track champion Bryan Bennett topped the Stock Cars yet again after staring on the outside of the 6th row in his #10. Daniel Blaeser and Jason Josselyn were battling for the lead early in the main, but contact was made sending both to the tail for the upcoming restart. From there, Bennett was able to get to the front and assume control for the remainder of the event, picking up the win. Josselyn rallied from the tail of the field to get to second when the checkered flag flew, ahead of Zach McCoy, Shane McNutt and Jed Smith in the top five.

Eric McNutt raced from his 9th starting spot to win his first feature of the season in the Late Model division after racing by early leaders Javier Zapien Jr and Devan Smith into the top spot. McNutt has been a consistent runner all season long and proved it again tonight by topping the field from 9th. Smith ran second with Zapien Jr third. Dave Deetz and Arturo Ordonez rounded out the top five finishers in the 20-lap main.

Daniel Sanchez Jr continued his hot streak and won another Claimer main event on Saturday night after starting in the 7th position. Miguel Rincon and Steven Mathe battled early for the lead after starting on the front row together until Sanchez, Ryder McCutcheon and Cole Turner began to move toward the front. Sanchez was able to get out front and cruise to the victory ahead of Reymundo Lopez, Jimmy Marta, McCutcheon and Rincon as they chased Sanchez to the checkered flag.

The final event of the night was the 25-lap 305-Winged Sprint Car feature event with Justin Lassiter and Robert Hererra sitting on row one and bringing the field to the green flag. Jesse Baker, who started third, moved in to battle with the leaders early, until 7th starting Rick Ziehl moved into contention and over took the top spot. Ziehl raced out front for several laps before 14th starting Lorne Wofford moved his #18 car around his competitors and into the top spot. Wofford then distanced himself from the field and raced to the victory over Ziehl, 19th starting Vance Wofford, Hererra and 18th starting Wes Wofford, who completed the top five finishers in the nightcap.
