Carpe diem, as you may know, means “seize the day” in Latin. It’s the thrust of our weekly Carpe Diem reports that demonstrate ways to carpe diem in the Borderland.

But sometimes, we stumble upon those who exemplify this motto in a way that should not be ignored.

Sometimes, we find those who inspire us to carpe diem in a way that should be celebrated, because they themselves do so despite certain odds or circumstances that may seem more challenging than our own.

This week, we meet such a person an 84-year-old man, in a race against age.
