Las Cruces, NM racer Nick Rivera captured his first career B-Mod track championship during the inaugural season at the Vado Speedway Park in Vado, New Mexico in 2019. Rivera, who has a long history in racing had been a championship contender in the past, but put it all together in 2019 to secure the track title during the opening season at his new hometown track.

Nick, who owns K&N Underground in his hometown of Las Cruces, NM is 26 years old and has been racing for fifteen years.

Nick’s career started at the age of 10. He used to rodeo at the New Mexico Fairgrounds where the Southern New Mexico Speedway was right next door. He was always curious what was going on with all the noises and rumbling until his older brother Vince asked if he wanted to go see some racing. Nick replied ‘like car racing, like NASCAR’? Vince just laughed and said ‘yeah kinda’. That's the day Nick fell in love with the sport. He remembers seeing all the classes run and some even trading paint and really liked the Street Stocks. The following week at a family breakfast, Nick spilled out his idea to his dad telling him that he wanted to race a Street Stock.

Nick and his family bought a car and about a month later was his first race - the Winter Meltdown - from that weekend on Nick raced every chance he got and improved as time went by. He picked up a few heat wins, trophy dashes and eventually got a main event win towards the end of the season in 2004. He raced Street Stocks until 2009 then took a short break until 2010 when he was offered a ride in a Modified, which he raced that for a full season before taking a four year break from racing to go back to Rodeo, where he teamed roped and tie-down roped until he got the itch for racing again in 2015.

At the start of 2015, fellow racer Fito Gallardo put Nick in his #j17 X-Mod and after a 4-year break Nick was able to pull off a main event win in his first night back out. He raced to a couple more wins throughout the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

In 2018, Nick was able to have the car ready and ran a full season where he was a track championship contender but unfortunately missed one race, knocking him out of contention for the championship.

Nick won the first race of 2019 at the new Vado Speedway Park and it ended up being an awesome season, as he picked up the first ever B-Mod main event win at the track, the season’s last main event win and racing to the 2019 B-Mod Track Championship as well.

Nick carries sponsorship from AOS, Rick’s Performance Center, Triggers Dirt Solutions and K&N Underground. He runs an AOS race car with AOS power and the car is lettered by Rick’s Print Shop. Nick’s family includes his wife Klarissa, son Samuel and daughter Alyla. His pit crew consists of his dad Keelo, Louie and his wife and kids.

Looking forward to the 2020 season, Nick has moved up into the URSA Modified ranks looking to quickly get up to speed and become a factor in an already stout field of weekly Modified competitors. Nick dabbled in the Modified division back in 2004, but plans to compete for the 2020 track title in the ‘Big Mods’ this season. Nick also plans on racing in several other USRA and select USMTS events throughout the course of the season as his schedule permits.

The state-of-the-art Vado Speedway Park, located in Vado, New Mexico opened in June of 2019 and held a total of thirty events during between the June 14th opener and the November 30th finale. The track will enter its second season in 2020 with over 30 events planned for its sophomore season.
