Lloyd Turner won the Sun Valley Hardware Street Stock feature.

Possibly the best night of racing ever to take place at the Southern New Mexico just occurred and if you weren’t in attendance I fell bad for you! The Jack Key Nissan X-Mods, raced for $1,500 while the Sun Valley Hardware Street Stocks raced for a full $3,000! To make the night even better the Border International 305 Winged Sprint Cars joined us for some highflying action.

After some solid B main action, the Shaw Trucking Southwest Late Models rolled out onto the speedway for the first A-Main of the night. The 24 of Rick Ortega led lap one by a hair but the 24x of Xavier Ortega came flying through 1 and 2 like a mad man and stole the show quickly. Only 1 lap led for the 24x because here comes the 22 of Jonathan Ortega! Three different laps and three different Ortega’s lead! The 59 of Bumper Jones would be right there on the 22 but nothing going to stick yet. With 5 into this 20 lap race the caution would fly. A clean restart would mean clean racing as the 22 tried to pull from the 59 again. This time the G17 of Fito Gallardo and J17 of Jake Gallardo where on the move and both would break the top 4 with 10 to go. With only 6 to go the G17 would finally get around the 59 but the 22 already way ahead in this one. Caution would fly and the field would bunch back together. With 3 to go the field was tight but nobody could get under another. As the checkered flew the 22 would walk away with it and win yet again. The G17 drove to second with the 59 of Bumper Jones rounding out the top 3.

Jonathan Ortega won the Shaw Trucking Southwest Late Model feature.

The claimers would only run 12 laps tonight and it would be a wild one down to the end. The 037 of Leo Lamb would lead early from the pole with the 24 of Shane McNutt hot on his heals. After a caution with 8 to go, the 24 would shoot to the lead and never look back. Only 5 laps to go and the 24 pulling away as the 5 of Aasa Flores would get into second over the 4 of Devan Smith after a 3 lap battle there. With 2 to go the 5 of Flores had caught McNutt but nowhere to make it work just yet. The 5 would try it a couple times coming to the white but nothing would work. Aasa Flores running a clean race this week and into turn 3 the 5 would take it side by side for the lead!!! The 24 of Shane McNutt would win it by a length at the line. The 5 of Aasa Flores was on a move at the end but second will have to do. The 4 of Devan Smith is third.

Jack Key Nissan X-Mods had 25 laps to win 1,500$ and 24 cars where chomping at the bit as the green flag dropped. The 33 of Justin Allen would pull away quickly but 4 in with 21 to go and caution would fly. The 33 would again pull away from the 2 of Jesse Haney on the restart but caution would bring emm back. After 5 attempts at a good restart, and 5 miserable fails… We would have to drop 5 laps and try a single file restart. Still 16 to go after the lap change and finally getting another lap completed. But, 5 to go and caution again. A clean restart but only 3 complete now and caution comes out again. With 12 to go the 33 has led them all but the 07G of Jacob Gallardo into the top 5 and the 7c of John Carney sr into third. Still 10 laps on the clock and the 47 of Jauregui holding on tight for the lead now. The 47 looking low and finally making something work for him now! With 7 to go the 47 leads the 33 but here comes the 07G! Caution with 5 to go but no laps will be taken off as we are inside 5 to go. The 47 leads us to the green but into turn 1 and out of 2 the 33 of Allen is back into the lead with a straight shot at the money. The 07G with other plans tonight though and he will grab a full throttle and rocket into turn 1!!! The 07G of Jacob Gallardo just took the lead with 3 to go and he has no intentions of looking back. The 33 would be there for the last 3 laps but Gallardo with a perfect job of holding steady and as the checkered flag waved, the 07G of Jacob Gallardo would go from 17th after coming from the B-Main and was the big winner in the Jack Key Nissan Xmods. The 33 of Allen was up front all night but couldn’t make it to the end, second is the top of the chart for him tonight. The 7c of John Carney Sr. with a solid third tonight.

Jake Gallardo won the Jack Key Nissan X-Mod feature.

Border International 305 Winged Sprint Cars with a little bit fresher of a track tonight as they run before the street stock. Another full class of 23 cars for 25 laps and this one would turn out to be the greatest sprint car race in many seasons. The 9 of Herrera would start on the pole with the "Bossman" Royal Jones just to his outside. Herrera leading lap 1 with Jones a close second but only 1 lap later and it was the 40x of “Donkey” Don Grabble going to the lead and bringing the 20z Rick Ziehl right in along with him! The 40x and 20z looking to pull away but the 22 of Justin Lassiter had other ideas as he was all over both of them! The 19 of Wes Wofford and the 18 of Lorne also moving into the top 5 after 5. The top 5 would run almost bumper-to-bumper all the way down to lap 16 when the caution would fly. The restart would be clean and the 22 of Lassiter would make the most of it going straight into second! The 40x trying to make the bottom stick but it isn’t there tonight and the 22 goes by with a breeze of cool air right on the cushion! Justin Lassiter leads with 14 to go! The 22 is pulling instantly but a battle brewing for third as the 19 slide jobs the 20z but the 20z gasses right back by! The 22 checking out with 8 to go as the 40x runs alone in second and the 20z, 19 and 18 are all swapping positions for third! A clean restart this time and Wes Wofford slide job like it’s his day job into second!! Don Grabble with nowhere to go now and 7 to go the field was charging. Only 4 circuits left in this one and the 22 and 19 are chugging away from the field! Lassiter is getting after it on the highside and Wofford never with the chance to slide him yet. Wofford falls right in on him with 3 to go. Bumper to bumper as two Alamogordo drivers go toe-to-toe. Coming to the line for 2 to go the 22 gets loose in 4! The 19 drives it low below him but nothing left down on the bottom and the 22 gets away with it there. The 22 regains it and grabs a gear. Justin Lassiter just ahead as they come to the white but the last lap would be a crazy one! The 20z of Rick Ziehl back onto the leaders, as the 18 of Lorne Wofford ready to move as well! Out of turn 4 the 19 had the high side but a lapped car gonna slow up both slow up both leaders and the 22 of Justin “FASTER” Lassiter would win his very first 305 winged Sprint car main event by a hair!!! The 19 of Wes Wofford drove through a lapped car to try and get the job done tonight but after the checkered flew second would have to do. The 20z of Rick Ziehl would finish on the podium in third with a hard charging Lorne Wofford in 4th. The top 4 cars where packed like a can of Sardines at that finish.

Justin Lassiter won the Border International 305 Winged Sprint Car feature.

It’s been one year since the big one! The second Annual Street Stock Smackdown presented by Sun Valley hardware has arrived! The 40 lap main event featuring 24 cars with THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS on the line!!! The 74 of Jason Josselyn would lead early in this one after trouble from the first row would send them both to the back. Josselyn would start to move away but the 0 of Lloyd Turner wasting no time in this one as he is already into 3rd after 4 laps! Only 6 laps in and the 0 around the 777 of Vargas and into second! Caution would fly as they completed that lap and we would have 34 laps left in this one. The 74 with a good restart but the 0 with an even better jump and into turn 1 Lloyd Turner would pilot his 0 machine straight to the lead!! The 44Jt of Jaime Torres seeing an opening as well and he goes to second. With 31 to go the caution would fly again. The 3J of Josh Cain already back into top 5 after going to the back early. With 15 in and 25 to the 0 was pulling from the field as the 44Jt had his hands full battling off the 3j for second. With 19 complete and 21 to go the caution would come out again. This time the 0 was 6 lengths ahead of the 44Jt and pulling. As the green flag fly’s it’ll be clean all the way to turn 1 but then the fun began. The 3j chopping down on the 44jt and big trouble from the field. Its dirt tracks version of the big one and it got some of the front-runners tonight. The 3j and 44Jt both go to the rear for being involved and now the 07 of Donovan Flores will run second with Victor Colorbrio in third. With 15 to go it was three-way battle for third as the 0 fought off a charge for the lead from the 07. Lloyd Turner grabbing some more gas and starting to pull again as the 3j was back into third again. Only 10 left in this 40 lap main event and the 0 leads the 3j of Josh Cain who went to the rear twice, and the 64 of Javie Chavez who has made a strong run to the front tonight! Yellow flag would make things interesting again. The 3j looking low on the restart but Lloyd Turner squeezing him all the way down to the tires to hold onto the lead! With 6 to go one more yellow on the night as the 0 was barely holding off the 3j. The next 5 laps the 3j would try and get underneath the 0 but Lloyd Turner showing his championship skills and protecting the bottom with everything he had tonight! As the checkered flag waved, it was the hometown guy, Lloyd Turner taking his 57’ Chevy all the way to victory lane and becoming 3,000 dollars richer!!! The hard charger on the night also going to Lloyd Tuner has he drove from 15th to first gaining a total of 14 positions! Lloyd Turner was absolutely unstoppable tonight. The 3j of Josh Cain went to the back twice for being involved in two separate yellows and a second place finish in this one is much better than what could have been for him. Third goes to the 64 of Javie Chavez who was up front late in this one and just couldn’t quite get the job done.
